DIGITAL DOWNLOAD TEST
If you are considering purchasing a digital downloadable product, you can practice the ordering and downloading process.
HOW TO DOWNLOAD YOUR DIGITAL PRODUCT:
1) Find the confirmation email that you were sent upon ordering the product. (You’re probably reading it right now!) Print this email if possible so that you can easily continue following the instructions while you download your product.
2) Click on the hyperlink (blue underlined text) that says: “The digital product(s) associated with this order can be downloaded from.” If your browser does not allow you to click on the line, then simply copy and paste or re-type the whole URL into your browser address window and press the enter key. (The address window is at the top of your internet browser. Don’t type it into the “search” window of our site!)
3) Enter your time-sensitive password. Note that security access is case-sensitive. This means that if you see a capital letter, you must type it as a capital or it won’t work! For the most accuracy, try copying and pasting-in the password. (Go back to the email message you received, highlight the password, go up to the top of the window where it says “edit” and slide down to “copy,” then get back to the download window, click one time in the place where you are supposed to type the password so the curser is blinking, then go up to the top of that window where it says “edit” and slide down to “paste.”)
4) After you press the “download” button, if you see a window with several options to “open” the file or to “save” the file, PLEASE CHOOSE “SAVE,” and also try to notice where on your computer it will be saved!
WHAT TO DO AFTER YOU DOWNLOAD IT: WHAT TO DO AFTER YOU DOWNLOAD IT:
Try to notice where the file will be saved before you begin the download. If you don’t know where it is on your computer then run a “search” or a “find” and you will find it. (Print this page out or write down the exact name of the file so if you need to search for it on your computer you will know what to type in.)
If you can’t see the extension .mp3, .exe, etc. (last three letters of filename) on the computer here’s why:
https://www.soundfeelings.com/products/questions/download.htm#noextension
For self-extracting files (ebooks) .exe or .sit files.
Note: you may need to temporarily disable your spyware and antivirus programs. Try first without doing this, but if you cannot open the file, then that could be the reason!
PC USERS WHO DOWNLOAD AN .EXE FILE:
1) Find the .exe file on your computer that you just downloaded. This will be wherever you normally store downloaded files. This is a “self-extracting” file and you do not need any “unzipping” software installed in your computer to access it.
2) Double-click on this file. You will then see this message: “This will install xxx. Do you wish to continue? Yes/no.” This is just the lingo that the decompression program uses because many people use this same program for installing software. But since this is NOT software, THERE IS NO PROGRAM BEING INSTALLED ONTO YOUR COMPUTER – IT IS ONLY A FOLDER WITH HTML (WEB) FILES. It is merely being de-compressed so please don’t feel worried about this. It is set to automatically create a folder within the “My Documents” folder. If you prefer to save the files in a different location, you will have the chance to select this instead.
3) Find this new folder that is created from the expansion and open it.
4) Look for the file that ends with .htm and double-click on this file. You now should be able to access your ebook. You don’t need any special software to view this file. It is a web file, which means that you should view it from your normal web browser, (Netscape, IE, aol, etc.)
MAC USERS WHO DOWNLOAD AN .SIT or DMG File:
1) Please note: Most Mac system software comes with Aladdin’s Stuffit Expander. You need version 5.0 or higher on your system in order to open the .sit file. (If you have Expander 7.0, there is a quirk that prevents you from see the files – you need to upgrade.) If you do not have a funcional copy of Expander you can get one for free at http://www.stuffit.com/expander/macindex.html
2) Find the .sit file on your computer that you just downloaded. This will be wherever you normally store downloaded files.
3) Create a folder and label this folder whatever you want and copy this file to the location you have selected.
4) Double-click the .sit and it will automatically trigger Stuffit Expander and will expand into the ebook you ordered, within the folder you have created.
5) Find this new folder that is created from the expansion and open it.
6) Look for the file that ends with .htm and double-click on this file. You now should be able to access your ebook. You don’t need any special software to view this file. It is a web file, which means that you should view it from your normal web browser, (Netscape, IE, aol, etc.)
Zip file not working. There are no files to be extracted in the .zip file. It indicates that is a bad zip file and I’ve downloaded it twice.
The file is perfect. Please read through the instructions one more time. Also, You cannot double click a zip file. You have to RIGHT click it and expand or uncompress or extract the file FIRST and THEN you will be able to double click on the newly-opened file!!! I am SURE that that is the issue.
I was able to download the product, but I can’t find it on my computer.
You may not know where your computer stores files after they download. First try this: Determine the name of the file by first going back to the download site. Don’t actually download again, but start the process of downloading. A window will open up asking you WHERE you want to save the file. This is where you should notice the “file path” of where it is about to be sent to. Now go directly to that directory (folder) and you should find it. If that doesn’t work, then you can do a search for the file. Get back to the download window and it will display the name of the file you are about to download. Copy and paste this file name into your “search” feature (“find”) on your computer and it should indicate where the file has been stored. Here is a nice tutorial on the subject:
http://www.cyberwalker.net/columns/aug03/find-file.html
After I downloaded the product, I was able to expand it (“install it”) but NOW I can’t find where it is.
On MAC systems, this is not a problem because the Stuffit expander will usually expand it in the same folder as the compressed file. On PC systems, it will send it to the “My Documents” folder unless you specify otherwise. The problem on some systems is that there may be more than one “My Documents” folder and the reason you can’t find it is because you may be looking in the wrong one! So do a search on your computer for “My Documents” and then you will find it.
I downloaded the ebook fine and then every time I click on it, it asks me to “install” it. After I install it, I click on it and it asks me to “install” it again and I’m in a loop and I’m going crazy!
You keep opening up the .exe file, which is a compressed file to “install” it onto your computer. What you SHOULD try to find is not the .exe file but the FOLDER that contains the .htm file of the same name. The .exe file will expand or “create” this other folder and place it somewhere on your computer. You have a choice to determine where this is, when you “install” the file. The file that you want is ALREADY ON YOUR COMPUTER BUT YOU DON’T KNOW WHERE IT IS!!!! This is the problem. You have to find WHERE on your computer your ebook just got installed TO.
The accompanying info you received in your order receipt email says that it will “install” it into the “My Documents” folder on your computer, unless you choose a different place. The problem is that on XP systems, there are sometimes more than one “My Documents” folders. So please just do a search “find” on your computer for the actual file: singingonpitch.htm (or whatever the name of the file you ordered is – the name is listed on the webpage where you placed your order) and you should be directed to the right location on your computer where it has been all the time. Make sure that you include the “.htm” after the filename. Or, do a search on your computer for “My Documents” and you will see if you have more than one of these folders! Once you find the actual file, just click on this and it will open up in your normal browser (IE or netscape or aol, or whatever you normally use.) It is designed so that you don’t need to have any additional programs or software.
How can I prevent the file from becoming corrupted?
If the file you are about to download is fairly large (5 MB or bigger) then you might want to install a “download manager” before you attempt to download your product. This step is not always necessary, but sometimes people have difficulty downloading a large file to their computer without one. A download manager increases the reliability of the download to prevent damage (corruption) to the file itself. You can download a download manager for free and then decide if you want to “upgrade” later. For PC we recommend http://www.lightningdownload.com For MAC we recommend http://www.speedbit.com/mac/ or http://mac.eltima.com/download-manager.html
How do I change the name of the file?
For PC and Mac computers, you single click the file that you want to rename. Then after one second, single click it again. You will see a little box light up around the name of the file. Place the cursor in this box at the very end. Press the backspace key until the “.zip” is gone and then type the correct file extension (.mp3 or .pdf, etc.) (The extension is the “.xxx” that is at the end of the filename.) Now click anywhere else on your computer screen. You are done! The file is renamed. NOW you can double click on this file and it will respond the normal way this type of file would respond.
I don’t see the .zip extension.
If you can’t see the extension (.xxx at the end of the filename) on a windows computer, make sure that the extension is set to display. In the My Computer window go to Tools/FolderOptions. Click on the View tab and if the option “Hide Extensions for Known File Types” is active, de-select it. Then proceed to rename the file.
If you use AOL, please read this.
There is nothing we can add to this excellent page of information regarding download problems with aol browsers.
http://www.scrapbookscrapbook.com/aol.html
I use aol. I have just ordered and downloaded your ebook. How do you open the attachment as I am unable to see the document?
People who use aol tend to have the most confusion after downloading something. That is because they can’t find what they just downloaded!
When you download something through aol, it will get saved within the “download” folder, which is a sub-folder within your “aol” folder. All you have to do is go to your hard drive where aol is and look within this folder and then you will come to a folder called “download” when you look inside THAT folder, you will find the item that you just downloaded. If you have aol version 4, 5, or 6, this aol folder is usually placed directly on your hard drive “C” drive? If you have aol version 7 or 8, the aol folder is usually placed within the “Program Files” folder on your hard drive. So look first for “program files,” then “aol” then “download.” If you THEN follow the directions that came with your order invoice, you should have no problems opening your ebook.
I have a problem opening the .mp3 file. I tried again and was able to open it in Windows Media Player but now it only plays for 8 sec. and shuts off. Please advise.
The file probably got corrupted during the download process. you can try downloading one more time. Part way through the download I got a Security Alert telling me “You are about to be redirected to a connection that is not secure. The information you are sending to the current site might be retransmitted to a non-secure site. Do you wish to continue.
Yes/No” This type of warning is coming from your browser, not from our site. All this means is that you were previously on a “secure” (encrypted) site, which enabled you to purchase the item with a credit card. But when you finally get to the download part of the process, there is no reason for it to be “secure” because there is no danger of your credit card information being stolen at that point. So this is a “courtesy” warning that all is OK, but it just causes more confusion than necessary! So just try again and click “yes” and you will be fine.
My browser won’t allow the download due to a security block.
Adjust your security settings. If you set your browser settings too high, you may not be able to download your product because your browser will think that you are downloading a virus or a spyware. Some browsers allow you keep your settings at your chosen level, but to create an “exception.” Make sure you assign http://www.modularmerchant.com as a “trusted site.” Also, If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that your browser is permitted to access the Web.
When I click the “Download” button it starts my email program and all I get is a link that ends with “.php.”
It sounds like you are right-clicking the download button instead of left-clicking it. Please just click on the link the normal way and then you should be able to download the product.
While I had no problem downloading the e-book, the pictures are not displayed. Please advise!
I suspect that you double clicked on the zip file. You have to have an unzipping program, which you probably do on your computer. You must use that program to properly unzip the file and THEN you will be able to see everything. If you right-click the .zip file you should see “unzip here” or “extract here” or something like that.
We are very sorry for the confusion and any delays you have experienced. Hopefully you will enjoy the product so much that it will make up for any difficulties you’ve experienced.
I try to click on the file but it doesn’t work and the file says the it has “0kb.”
